READY TO RUN 1928 Harley-Davidson JD Model 74 cubic-inch engine only with clear certificate of title in my name. This engine is freshly rebuilt by the experienced Lee Clemens at Departure Bike Works in Richmond Virginia. Beautiful right-hand side case is 1926.
It had some stress cracks, so we replaced it with a pristine 1926 right case with no damage or repairs. Left case has some older light repairs on the motor mount pads, but is otherwise perfect. Original big-port 1928 cylinders have been re-sleeved to standard bore.
The only broken fin is the bottom fin on the front cylinder. Intake and exhaust valve guides and springs are new.Intake rockers are from George Hood. Pistons are high compression aluminum Knucklehead pistons. Flywheel/rod assembly has new crank pin, bearings, and shafts. Rods are perfect 1928 H-D drilled rods.
Camshaft is high performance Leinweber JD3, and cam followers have new wheels. Cam gear chest is rare original magneto drive casting.
There is a weld reinforcement/repair behind the oil pump gear stud, (see photos). Bosch ZEV magneto is rebuilt by Mark's Magneto.Carburetor is rebuilt Linkert M-88. Magneto is timed, and this is ready to install and run. With the 1928 Cylinders, JD3 camshaft, and Knucklehead pistons, These Harley JD's are very fast. I built it to race in Sons of Speed, but have a two Cam JDH engine ready to take the place of this 1928 JD.
